What Is a WebP Image, and Why Convert It?

WebP is an image format created by Google. It makes pictures smaller than JPG or PNG, which is why many websites use it. The problem starts when you save a WebP image. Some older programs, print shops, email tools, and upload forms do not accept it. Converting WebP to PNG or JPG fixes that. Here are the most common reasons people convert:

Is It Safe to Convert WebP Online?

Many online converters upload your pictures to a server. BixTools works differently. Your images are opened and converted inside your own browser, so they never leave your device. We do not store, share, or look at your files.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this WebP converter really free?

Yes. BixTools is completely free. There is no signup, no watermark, and no limit on how many times you convert images.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Your images are opened and converted inside your own browser, so they never leave your device. We do not upload or store your pictures.

How do I convert WebP to PNG?

Add your WebP images, choose Convert to PNG, then click Convert. When the files are ready, click Download next to each image, or download them all as a ZIP.

How do I convert WebP to JPG?

Add your WebP images, choose Convert to JPG, pick the quality you want, then click Convert. Click Download next to each image, or download them all as a ZIP.

Should I choose PNG or JPG?

Choose PNG when you need a transparent background or the sharpest result, for example for logos and screenshots. Choose JPG for photos when you want a smaller file.

What happens to transparent backgrounds?

PNG keeps transparency. JPG cannot be transparent, so the transparent areas are filled with white, or with the background color you choose.

Can I convert many WebP images at once?

Yes. You can add up to 100 images, with up to 50 MB per image and about 300 MB in total. If you convert more than one image, you can download them all as one ZIP file.

Does it work with animated WebP images?

Animated WebP images are converted to a still picture using the first frame.

Why is my PNG file bigger than the WebP file?

WebP compresses images very well, while PNG stores every detail without loss. A bigger PNG is normal. If you need a smaller file, convert to JPG and lower the quality.

Will converting WebP reduce the image quality?

PNG conversion does not add any new quality loss. JPG is a compressed format, so a small difference is possible. At 90% quality and above, it looks the same to the eye.
